CONWAY, Ark. - The Rhodes College women's tennis team came away with a win in Conway, AR against the Austin College Kangaroos.
 
At first glance, a score of 8-1 doesn't raise any eyebrows, but the Lynx fought hard for their first win, claiming third set super tiebreaker victories on singles courts 1 and 4.
 
The Lynx Women took all three doubles points to begin the match.  McIsaac and Volkov won No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-4, while Wilkins and Smith began their 8-game pro set with a 5-0 lead, and closed the door on an 8-3 victory.  No. 3 doubles won the third point of the match by walkover.
 
Morgan Wilkins was the first of the singles matches to finish, cruising to a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at line two early in singles play.  Soon to follow for Rhodes was line five singles Kristal Skrmetta with a 6-2, 6-3 win.  Line six singles was forfeited by walkover, and with the team victory locked up at this point 6-0, the three remaining matches provided each player quality match experience and served as a test of mental toughness.
 
Anna Volkov claimed an easy first set 6-2, but just as quickly dropped the second set 6-1, placing her in a 10 point match tiebreaker for third singles.  Although hard fought, the first-year standout could not emerge victorious, losing 10-6 tiebreaker.
 
First singles was a hard-hitting grinder on both sides of the net, but Amelia McIsaac captured the coveted top-court point for the Lynx 6-4, 4-6 (10-4) to start her season with a tough test and a hard fought win.
 
The last court to finish was Elyse Smith at line four singles, battling to a 6-2, 2-6, (10-8) win in easily the match of day for the women's team.  When all was said and done, the Lynx won eight points and lost only one, but they are already looking ahead to tomorrow morning at 9am against. 
 
 SAA Opponent Hendrix College meets them on their home courts having just beaten the 'Roos 6-3 only a day ago.
