Rhodes rolls to 8-1 win over Transy

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Rhodes field hockey team picked up a big road win on Saturday against Southern Athletic Association foe's Transylvania University, 8-1.

The win improves the Lynx record to 12-3 on the year and 6-1 in SAA play, while the Pioneers fall to 1-13 in 2014 and 0-7 in league action.

The high powered Lynx offense went right to work, as Alex Friedman scored the first goal at the five minute mark. Just a minute later, Evy Royther netted a second Rhodes goal to give the Lynx a 2-0 advantage.

Corrinne Palmer found the back of the net in the 29th minute to push the Lynx ahead 3-0. Georgie Wilkins added another Rhodes goal before the end of the half to give Rhodes a 4-0 lead going into the half time break.

In the second half of action, Rhodes wasted no time getting into the scoring column. Christina DiFelice netted the Lynx fifth goal just three minutes into the half. Mary Rose Hazel found the back of the net just 15 seconds later, pushing the Lynx ahead by a sizable margin of 6-0.

Grace Whelan continued the Rhodes scoring attack, finding the back of the cage in the 38th minute. Jordan Kugler netted a goal for the Lynx final score in the 40th minute to give Rhodes an 8-0 lead. The Pioneers worked to foil the Rhodes shutout, as Jessica Chandler scored in the 62nd minute to make the count 8-1. The Lynx defense held strong, as they closed out the 8-1 win.

Laura Eckelkamp got the start for the Lynx in the cage, paying 35 minutes and grabbing two saves. Caroline Fowler also saw 35 minutes as the Rhodes net minder.
