CONWAY, Ark. – The Rhodes field hockey team picked up a strong Southern Athletic Association road win over Hendrix College on Saturday, 3-1.
The Lynx improve to 11-3 on the year and 5-1 in conference play while the Warriors fall to 2-13 in 2014 and 1-5 in league action.
Rhodes opened the scoring in the contest with a goal less than two minutes in, when
Evy Royther netted a goal off a
Mary Rose Hazel assist.
Shauni Cowan found the back of the cage in the 10th minute off a
Lauren Travis set up to give the Lynx the 2-0 edge.
Merely 31 seconds later,
Julie Hertzman scored the Lynx third goal giving Rhodes a 3-0 lead in the 10th minute. The Warriors found the back of the cage for a goal at the 17 minute mark, when Bailee Wallace snuck in a shot past the Rhodes net minder. The 3-1 score would stand into the half time break.
The Lynx defensive unit held on strong in the second half of action, where they brought home a 3-1 victory.
Rhodes had two keepers earn minutes in the cage, with
Erin Bailey nabbing the start and 35 minutes of play. While in goal, she grabbed two saves.
Laura Eckelkamp started the second half for the Lynx grabbing one save in the cage.
Rhodes outworked their counterparts in the shots column as well, outshooting Hendrix 37-5. The Lynx were also awarded more penalty corners by a count of 17-1.
Rhodes will be back in action on Nov. 1 at Transylvania University.
