Rhodes college wins nail biter over UT Dallas, 3-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes soccer needed a goal from Kelsey Sweeney to pull out a 3-2 nail biter over the University of Texas at Dallas on Sunday.
 
The win keeps the Lynx streak alive moving them to 7-1, while the Comets fell to 2-6.
 
Rhodes opened the contest with a goal from Shannon Donelson at the 17 minute mark when she finished a Hannah Selner pass in the right corner of the goal. The Lynx would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
 
Selner connected on a goal of her own in the second half, padding the Lynx lead to 2-0 with 35 minutes left in play. Rhodes saw their two goal lead disappear when the Comets scored two consecutive goals from Sofia Quezada at the 60 minute mark and from Megan Mugavero with eight minutes left in the contest.
 
Rhodes maintained composure and Sweeney buried a Heidi Press free kick pass with less than three minutes left to play, making the final tally 3-2.
 
A game that proved to be tight throughout saw Rhodes take 14 shots to the Comets 10. The Lynx were also awarded more corners than their opponent by a count 0f 5-2.
 
Cowling earned her seventh win of the season, grabbing three saves in today's match.  Rhodes faced three different UT Dallas goalies with Brittany Best earning 45 minutes and one save. Macaire Ament saw 42:36 minutes of time in the net with two saves and Kristi Istre earning 2:24 minutes of time.
 
The Lynx will be on the road for their next four contests. Rhodes first stop will be on Sept. 28 at Emory University at 1:30 p.m.
