MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes defeated the University of the Ozarks by a score of 3-0 on Sunday in the second round of the Parents Weekend Tournament.
The win completes a 3 game winning streak for the Lynx, taking them to 4-4 on the year, while the loss brings the Eagles' record to 6-1-2.
The first half was a physical, fast-paced, end-to-end battle, producing five yellow cards, one for Rhodes and four for the Ozarks. Rhodes was able to break the deadlock at the 10 minute mark when Jason Crutcher was award a penalty kick after being brought down inside the box. Eric Ly stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick to make the score 1-0. The score line would remain the same as the teams broke for halftime.
Rhodes carried their physical superiority into the second half. At the 35 minute mark, Rhodes made the score 2-0 with a goal from Evan Wladis, who finished a well-timed pass from Crutcher. The Eagles' frustration continued when Shaun Keane received his second yellow card and was sent out of the contest.
With Rhodes playing against 10 men, the Lynx continued to pressure the Eagles' defense. With six minutes left to play, Crutcher was again brought down in box, earning Rhodes their second penalty kick of the game. This time, the junior forward took the shot himself and made the score 3-0 with a composed finish.
"It was a well deserved win for the team," said head coach Andy Marcinko "Even though it was a 3-0 result we had to work very hard for 90 minutes against a good team. We also did a much better job of maintaining our composure late in the game to finish with a shutout."
Riley Sheen played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lynx, making 4 saves and giving Rhodes their second shutout of the season.
The Lynx are back in action against Huntingdon College on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
