Rhodes College Athletics

After serving as head soccer coach for 26 years and an assistant men's soccer coach and compliance director for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Marcinko has moved over to facilities beginning in July of 2019. The Rhodes veteran will now be the Director of the Bryan Campus Life Center and also the athletic department student employment coordinator. 

Andy Marcinko was with Rhodes soccer for 28 years as of the 2018 season. After serving as head coach for 26 years, Marcinko stepped down due to family obligations and assumed the role of assistant coach beginning Sept. 12, 2017.

In 18 of his 26 seasons, he has had a .500 or better season with 14 seasons of 10 wins or more. Along the way, he has captured three SCAC conference titles and six second place finishes. He has been selected SCAC Coach of The Year four times, and his teams have been nationally ranked and have traveled to four NCAA National Tournaments. Nineteen of his players have been selected to All-Region teams and three have been named All-Americans. His teams have also been awarded the NSCAA/ADIDAS Academic Team Award 14 times.

He also previously coached the women's team to an eight-year (1991-98) record of 111-33-4 (77%), while leading them to three consecutive years of NCAA DIII national rankings. In 1991, his first year with the women's team, he set an NCAA DIII record for Most Improved Team--improving to 10-3-1 from the previous year’s record of 0-14-1. His women's teams claimed one SCAC title and five second place finishes.

Prior to arriving at Rhodes, Marcinko spent eight years at Richland Junior College, in Dallas, Texas coaching both men's and women's teams, His men's team compiled a 96-35-12 record while his nationally-ranked teams advanced to five consecutive NJCAA Regional Tournaments. He was also named NJCAA Region 5 Coach of the Year five times.

Besides his collegiate coaching experience, Marcinko's past includes coaching within the Olympic Development Programs of Texas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. He has coached competitive club soccer teams to several USYSA Regional Tournaments, and in 1997, was selected to coach the Region III Women's Amateur team at the U.S. Soccer Festival in Blaine, Minnesota. Marcinko has also been a coaching instructor for the North Texas and Tennessee State Soccer Associations.

Marcinko grew up in the soccer-rich environments of St. Louis Missouri and Dallas Texas, where he played both club and high school soccer. He played college soccer at Virginia Tech graduating in 1982 with a BS in Biology. In 1989 Marcinko earned an MS in Exercise Physiology from the University of North Texas.

Marcinko holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "A" license, an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and International Coaching Diplomas from the Brazilian Football Academy and the Football Association of Ireland. He has traveled to 41 countries on five continents, coaching youth, college, and amateur teams, while also attending coaching seminars and observing youth and professional training programs. From his vast experiences around the world, he has developed a coaching style and philosophy that has provided his players with an enjoyable soccer experience, as well as a life-long love for the beautiful game of soccer.
