MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Rhodes College finished strong over Principia College by a tally of 3-0 Saturday in the final game of the Rhodes Classic.
The win moves the Lynx to 1-1 on the young season, while the Panthers move to the 1-1 mark.
Shannon Donelson was first to score, burying a pass from Breanna Durbin in the bottom left corner in the 35th minute, which would give the Lynx a 1-0 lead into the half.
Rhodes was able to find the back of the net on two more occasions in the second half, first a score from Heidi Press when she headed in a rebound off the crossbar. The final goal in the contest came from the foot of Taylor Weidow as she finished in the top right corner off a pass from Hannah Selner.
The Lynx outshot the Panthers by a margin of 18-6, and edged Principia in corners 5-4.
Allison Cowling tallied three saves on the day in 90 minutes.
The Lynx will take a week long break and be back in action as they travel to Chicago to face two Ill. teams. Rhodes will play Dominican University on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. followed by a match up with Elmhurst College on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
