Softball Takes Two from Sewanee on Saturday

In game one the Lynx plated 9 runs off 10 hits to beat the Sewanee Tigers 9-1 in series' opener. In the 1st inning Erin Parker reached base safely on a walk, stole second base and was hit home on a triple off the bat of Danielle Smith; Smith later scored on a Jessica Brown groundball to third. In the 2nd inning, Courtney Williams hit a solo homerun and pitcher Chloe Hundman helped her cause by sending a double to left center to score Katie Stich before later come home herself thanks to an Erin Parker sacrafice. In the 3rd inning the Lynx plated a single run to making the score to 6-0. In the 4th, Rhodes scored 3 runs - Smith doubled home Parker, and Brown homered to scoring Smith, as well as herself. With a 9-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th, Sewanee recorded their only 2 hits of the game and were able to push 1 run across to make the final score, 9-1. Chloe Hundman recorded the win for Rhodes pitching all 5 innings allowing only 1 run off 2 hits and no walks.

In game two Rhodes set the tone early plating 5 runs in the 1st inning highlighted by Jessica Brown's second homerun of the afternoon off a line drive over the left field fence. Over the next 4 innings the Lynx would play small ball, stringing together base hits and using aggressive base running to manufacture an additional 11 runs to balloon the lead to 16-0. Forrest Skelton pitched game two for Rhodes and shut down the Tigers allowing only 3 base runners on the afternoon off 2 singles and 1 walk.

Rhodes returns to action tomorrow against the Tigers, first pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
