The Rhodes Lynx faced the Millsaps Majors on Thursday, March 28th. The match was played at Rhodes, the first true home match for the women.
At #2 doubles
Amelia McIsaac and
Elle Prewitt were too strong for the Majors #2 pair. The Lynx took the match 8-1. There was much of the same dominating play at the #3 position with the imposing duo of
Courtney Hornsby and
Elyse Smith winning 8-1 in a one sided doubles match. The top pair for the Lynx of
Maggie Donoghue and
Emily Rizer faced a very strong team from Millsaps. The consistent and aggresive returning of the Majors made them a very difficult team to beat.
Going into singles up 2-1 the Lynx felt very confident. It was clear that our depth was our strength after the doubles and this proved to be true in the singles as well. Maggie and Amelia came up against very tough opponents at the top 2 singles positions and couldn't chase enough balls down to pull out the wins. This put Millsaps up 3-2 with 4 matches left to be played.
Courtney Hornsby, playing from the #4 spot, had a very slow start. She dropped the first set 5-7 before adjusting her game plan and taking the second and third sets 6-1, 6-3.
Emily Rizer played powerful and aggressive tennis in order to win 6-3, 6-2 and the #3 spot.
Elle Prewitt and
Krystal Skrmetta both won a set at love en route to their straight set victories at the 5 and 6 spots. Elle won 6-4, 6-0 and Krystal took the match 6-0, 6-1.
Rhodes will be back in action against Birmingham Southen on Friday, March 29th. We look forward to seeing you out there! GO LYNX!
