Volleyball finishes season with 3-2 loss to Hendrix

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Rhodes volleyball fell in a close battle in the first round of the Southern Athletic Tournament to Hendrix College on Friday, 3-2.

Rhodes will move to an overall record of 10-20, while the Warriors move to the next round of the SAA tournament and advance to a 19-11 overall record.

Rhodes will play in a consolation game tomorrow, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. at host Berry College against the losers of the second game.

The battle proved to be a close one as the match needed several extra point situations to declare a winner. The Lynx fell in the first set 25-20, but would come back and win the second set 26-24. Rhodes again fell in the third set 25-21 but fought back 25-22 in the third set. In the final game, Rhodes eventually fell 17-15 to close out the Lynx season.

"I am extremely proud of my team," said head coach Kait Harris.  "They are trusting our system and playing with a ton of heart. I cannot ask for much more. The game might not have ended in our favor but I know we will only grow stronger as time goes on. We have to refocus and take on Centre tomorrow and I know we can come out with the same intensity."

Rhodes was again led Alexis Krall who had 23 kills in the match. Mollie Newbern added 11 kills in the match with Stephanie Renner, Lauren Johnson and Leah Washburn each swinging for eight kills.

Michelle Quina set up 50 assists in the match and served up a service ace. Maraia Tremarelli dug up 17 balls for the Lynx, with Allison Limmer sprawling for 12 digs.

The Lynx saw several players receive All-Conference honors, including Krall, who earned a spot on the First Team All-Conference list.  Quina and Tremarelli were named to the All-SAA Second Team, with Catherine Grimes receiving votes and making the Honorable Mention list.
