BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rhodes women's soccer advances to the semi-finals of the SAA Tournament with a decisive win over Hendrix, 3-0.
Rhodes continues their post-season quest with the win, moving to 14-4-1 on the season. The Warriors close out their 2013 campaign with a 6-9-3 record.
Rhodes opened the contest with a
Shannon Donelson score at the 18 minute mark when she received a pass from
Sarah Wachter, took a touch of her own, and buried the ball from right outside the 18 yard mark. Rhodes continued their dominance with an
Addie Fargason goal in the 42nd minute when the sophomore blasted a shot from 40 yards out and found the top corner of the net. The Lynx finished out the first half strong with a third goal from
Nicolette Glidden when she maneuvered into the box and sent home the final Rhodes score with five second left in the first half. The Lynx would take their 3-0 lead into the half.
Rhodes defense stood strong in the second half and maintained the shutout against the Warriors, making the final score 3-0.
Rhodes had two goal keepers see time in the net for the Lynx, with
Allison Cowling earning 60 minutes in the net.
Chandler Kuhlman also earned time in the net for 30 minutes, grabbing three saves.
Rhodes outshot its opponent 16-5 and also beat the Warriors in the corner count, 6-0.
Rhodes advances to the second round of the SAA Tournament where they will face Berry College on Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that match up will advance to the Championship game to face the winners of Centre and Sewanee on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
