DANVILLE, Ky. - Rhodes men's soccer fell to Centre College 2-1 on Saturday's SAA conference game at Colonel Field.
Â
The loss takes the Lynx to 5-8-2 on the season and 0-3-2 in conference play, while the win brings the Colonels to 7-4-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference.
Â
Rhodes dominated possession in the first half, outshooting Centre 7-4. Despite having many scoring opportunities, the Lynx were unable to break the deadlock.
Â
After halftime, Rhodes looked the more likely team to score and, after a couple of good chances, the Lynx finally found the back of the net. In the 63rd minute,
Evan Wladis' near post finish from an
Eric Ly cross made the score 1-0 for Rhodes. However, the Colonels would equalize in the 74th minute with a goal from Alex Seithe, making the score 1-1. Rhodes fought back but couldn't get a late winner. The teams would take the score line into overtime.
Â
With 28 seconds left on the clock in overtime, Centre forward Cameron Miller finished a ball from Ohan Missirian-Dill to end the game.
Â
"It's a tough loss to swallow," head coach
Andy Marcinko said. "We had a couple of great chances early- if we had finished those, maybe there would have been a different outcome. But Centre is a tough team to beat, especially on their home turf."
Â
Riley Sheen played all 100 minutes for the Lynx, making 10 saves.
Â
The Lynx will be back in action against Sewanee on Sunday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m.
