Rhodes completes sweep, defeating Earstern Mennonite University 2-1

LEXINGTON, Va.- Rhodes college completes the sweep this weekend as they defeated Eastern Mennonite University 3-2 to finish the weekend 3-0.

Rhodes moves their overall record to 7-7 while the Royals fall to 3-11 on the year.

The contest proved to be a close defensive battle one as neither team was able to score in the first half.  Rhodes saw Eastern Mennonite score the first goal at the 47 minute mark when Jenessa Derstine finished a rebound off Kelly Whelan's pads. While the Lynx got off to a sluggish scoring start they quickly answered after the Royals goal with a Lynx goal just three minutes later. Kennedy Brislin scored on a penalty stroke, as she connected into the upper left corner of the cage. Rhodes' Kate Taylor got the game winner for the Lynx as she put away a slap shot on the right side of the cage off a penalty corner making the final count 2-1.

Whelan saw all 70 minutes in the net for the Lynx, grabbing one save in the outing.

The Lynx outshot the Royals by a count of 19-6 and were also awarded more penalty corners, 13-5.

Rhodes will return home for Homecoming weekend as they set up to face Hendrix on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
