MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Rhodes men's soccer tied in a hard fought battle with Berry on Sunday in Southern Athletic Association Action.
Â
The tie keeps the Lynx at 5-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in SAA play, and the Vikings at 6-4-2 and 0-1 in conference.
Â
"I was extremely happy to see us bounce back so well against a great opponent," said head coach
Andy Marcinko. "We knew we had to step our game up and we did."
Â
The Rhodes defense was the star of the show with strong saves by
Riley Sheen who kept the aggressive Berry offense from ever getting on the board. Defender
Paul Burdette also frequently challenged the opposing team by pressuring the ball and tackling when appropriate.
Â
Although the game ended in a tie, and the Lynx are still winless in the conference, the team's future for this season is looking bright.
Â
"We know how well we can play now. The standard has been set for us the rest of the year," said Marcinko.
Â
Rhodes'
Riley Sheen earned 90 minutes in goal for the Lynx while managing to achieve six saves.
Â
The shots taken by both teams were basically identical with 15 from Rhodes and 16 from Berry.
Â
Both team racked up the foul count with 10 by Rhodes and 13 committed by Berry.
Â
The Lynx will be back at home on Saturday Oct. 19 when they host Millsaps College
