Fresh off the Lynx impressive wins Saturday, the ladies of Rhodes College took to the field again Sunday to complete the series against the visiting Tigers.
Game 1:
Game 1 saw senior pitcher,
Chelsea Peters, take the circle and pitch 6 1/3 innings of scoreless softball. Peters keep the Tigers off balance changing speed and mixing locations, never allowing visting Sewanee to string anything together.
Offensively, the Lynx hitters managed 4 runs over their 6 innings of at bats and were aided by triples from
Kelli Zomer and
Megan Matthews and doubles by
Elise Suna and Matthews.
Peters recieved the win for Rhodes and the Lynx improved their mark to 11-7-1 (3-0 SCAC).
Game 2:
Jessica Becher began as the starting pitcher and went 5 innings+ for Rhodes before being relieved by Chelase Peters, her second appearnace of the day. Together the two Lynx pitchers were able to withstand an inspired Tigers offense looking to steal a game in the 4 game series.
Offensively, Rhodes secured a lead on an
Amber Hunt homerun in the bottom of the 1st inning and never looked back. Despite the fireworks of the previous 3 games, game 4 saw the Lynx offense grind out 3 runs over 6 innings, but it was enough to secure the series sweep.
Becher earned the win for the Lynx, Rhodes record now stands at 12-7-1 (4-0 SCAC).
The Lynx next competition will be this upcoming weekend when Birmingham Southern comes to town. Saturday, the Lynx will hold their first annual, Pink the Park Game, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer prevention and research. Sunday, Rhodes will honor their 3 seniors,
Kelli Zomer,
Elise Suna and
Chelsea Peters, during Senior Game, their last home games of the season.
