Men and Women defeat Austin College

With a long hard fought battle the Lynx girls took down conference opponent Austin College. The match started with a split in the doubles and a nerve wrecking match at the #3 spot. In the end the consistency and toughness of Rhodes was too much for Austin as the lynx took an 8-6 decision. Going into singles with a 2-1 lead was a huge advantage for Rhodes and gave the whole team a boost of energy.  Maggie Donoghue and Krystal Skrmetta were the first to win for the lynx but senior Carolina Sanchez was stopped by a tough Austin opponent. With 3 matches left to be played the lynx were leading 4-2. Things got tight as Elyse Smith and Hillary Connel dropped the first set. Luckily senior Alex Phipps played a very solid and tough match to take it 7-5 in the second. Phipps had a tough long second set that she ended on a big forehand drawing the error out of her opponent thus clinching the match for the lady Lynx. The women played strong and are preparing for their next weekend of matches.

On the men's side things were a bit more relaxed. Rhodes swept all three doubles very decisively and got off to a strong start in singles. Senior Mason Asbury played very consistent and smart tennis in order to outlast his opponent 6-2, 6-0. Seeing limited playing time, Mason came out ready to play and show everyone that he belongs on the court. He did just that by committing very few unforced errors even in the 20MPH gusting winds. Philip Johnson and John Alexander also had strong showings today in the wind. It's good to have players that are capable and ready to step in when the team needs them.

The men and women build on there wins last week and improve their winning streaks to two straight. The teams look to continue this streak in Missippi in a few weeks. Way to go Rhodes!
