The Lynx Softball program continued their winning ways sweeping regional foe, Piedmont, in a two game set Thursday on the first leg of their Spring Break travels.
In game one, Rhodes struck first scoring two in the top of the 1
st inning. Freshman
Forrest Skelton began the game with a leadoff single. Sophomore
Amber Hunt followed with a walk and the sophomore
Jessica Brown advanced Skelton to third with an infield fielder's choice. With Lynx runners on the corners, Jess Brown stole second putting runners on second and third with one out. Sophomore
Courtney Williams singled to left field scoring one and again, presenting Rhodes with a first and third situation. Williams failed steal attempt of second allowed Brown to score from third, accounting for two runs. The two runs would prove to be all the runs needed in the contest.
Forrest Skelton took to the circle and turned in another outstanding performance going the distance for Rhodes, striking out seven and allowing only one Piedmont run.
In game two, Rhodes again scored two in the first inning, forcing and capitalizing on two Piedmont errors. Aggressive Lynx base running would prove to be the difference, allowed the Lynx to dictate the pace of the game from the opening pitch.
Game two saw senior pitcher,
Chelsea Peters, throw three strong innings before being relieved by
Forrest Skelton who would complete the game.
The Lynx added three more runs to increase their total to 5 over 7 innings. Piedmont was held to three runs behind the pitching efforts of Peters and Skelton and flawless Rhodes team defense.
The two wins moved the Lynx to 5-4-1 on the season.
