The Rhodes College Baseball kicked the 2012 season off this afternoon with a 13-1 home victory over LeMoyne-Owen College.  The Lynx offense started out slow, but was able to overcome an early 1-0 deficit, with a single run in the bottom of the fourth, 7 in the fifth, and five in sixth before the mercy rule was enacted in the bottom of the seventh. 

The Rhodes pitching staff was dominate all day, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks, struck out 14, and allowed 1 unearned run.  Junior RHP Jackson Baker started the game and went 2 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, 1 walk, and struck out 4.  Freshman LHP Josh Olejnik worked the 3rd inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 unearned run, no walks, and struck out 2.  Senior RHP Brian Lainoff threw the 4th, allowing no hits, no runs, and struck out 1.  Senior RHP Austin Carden threw the next two innings en route to his first victory of the season.  Carden allowed 1 hit, 1 walk, no runs, and struck out 4.  Junior RHP Stuart Voges worked the top of the seventh, allowing no hits, 1 walk, and struck out 1.

The Lynx offense only totaled 4 hits on the day, but took advantage of 15 walks, 3 hit batters, and 4 errors to put the game out of reach.  Sophomore OF Josh Berkey paced the Lynx offense going 2-3 with a double, run scored, 3 RBIs, walked once, and stole a base.  Sophomore 2B Stewart Martens was 1-3 on the day with an RBI, run scored, and walked once.  Senior OF Travis Perkins scored 3 runs, walked once and got hit by a pitch after he entered the game as a pinch runner for DH Matt Burnick in the bottom of the 4th.  Red-shirt Freshman Justin Genter was 0-1 on the day with run scored, sac fly, drove in one, and walked once.

The Lynx will return to action this weekend as they host Huntingdon College at Stauffer Field.  First pitch is set for 2:00.
