Rhodes season ended on Saturday, February 25th in the Semifinals of the SCAC tournament to Trinity University. Falling behind by ten points over the first eight minutes, the Lynx fought back. A game that included 14 ties and 8 lead changes, all occurring in the last 25 minutes of the game saw the Lynx end up on the wrong end of a slugfest. Rhodes grabbed their last lead with 3:53 seconds remaining, but was unable to score another point as they fell to the Trinity Tigers 66 to 74.
The Lynx did not get the start they wanted as they fell behind the Tigers early, 20 to 10, over the first eight minutes of the contest. From that point forward, the Lynx outscored the Tigers 26 to 17 to head into the break down only one point, 36 - 37. The Lynx defense stiffened, while Junior
Andrew Galow led the Lynx offensively with 14 points.
In the second half, the Lynx and Tigers traded blows. Until the final seconds, neither team would grab a lead larger than three points, resulting in a half with 11 lead changes and 7 ties. Rhodes was paced offensively with four players in double figures, while Trinity had three players in double figures.
With 3:53 remaining, Sophomore
Johnny Dunavant made a layup to give the Lynx their last lead at 66 to 64. The ensuing possession, Trinity's Lambert knocked down a three point field goal to change the lead again. Lambert finished with a game-high 22 points. Rhodes missed some open looks, and the score remained the same until 1:32 remaining when Tiger's Beall dropped in a 15 foot running floater as the shot clock was expiring to give the Tigers a three point advantage. Beall chipped in 15 points for the Tigers.
Over the last forty seconds the Lynx would commit two turnovers, something that hindered them all season, and had no other choice but to foul and send Trinity to the free throw line. As the final, 66 to 74, did not express how close the game truly was.
Rhodes was lead in scoring by both
Andrew Galow and
Johnny Dunavant who scored 19 a piece. Galow added 7 rebounds and 5 assists as well. Junior
Theo Hartwell and Senior
Kory Kilpatrick chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Rhodes Lynx finished the year with an overall record of 18 - 9, including a SCAC record of 12 - 4.
