It was a first half to remember as the Rhodes Lynx shot 89.5% (17 for 19) from the field in the first half to cruise to another conference victory against Oglethorpe University on Friday, January 6th - 76 to 55. Rhodes scored on their opening possession and led the full 40 minutes, climbing out to a 27 point led going at the half. Junior
Andrew Galow paced the Lynx with game-highs in points (21), rebounds (8), and assists (5). Sophomore
Johnny Dunavant added 16 points.
Rhodes used a 20 - 0 run over a 6 minute span in the middle of the first half to expand their led to 21. As the half progressed things started getting weird as the Lynx could not miss from the field. At half, Rhodes shot 89.5% (17 for 19) from the field, and 8 of 9 from the three point line. The Lynx used hot shooting and a great defensive effort to take a 27 point led into the break.
Oglethorpe came out in the second half and fought hard, but the Lynx would not let them back into the game. The closest Oglethorpe would get was 15 points with 9:38 remaining, but the Lynx pushed the led back into the twenties and tallied their fourth conference victory.
The Lynx finished the night shooting 66% from the field, and 69% from the three-point line.
Andrew Galow led Rhodes with game-highs in all categories; 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Johnny Dunavant scored 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting, while Senior
Kory Kilpatrick had 8 points (4 for 4 from the field), 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Oglethorpe was led by Junior Alex Pitts with 11 points.
The win moves Rhodes to 4-0 in the SCAC, and an overall record of 9-4. The conference weekend has Rhodes traveling to Birmingham Southern College for their next game on Sunday, January 8th at 3pm.
