The Rhodes Men's Swim team closed their regular season with wins over Berry College and Hendrix College Saturday afternoon. In their final duel meet of the season, the Lynx traded leads with Berry College throughout the day on their way to a 62-58 victory. The Vikings of Berry started the meet with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay before freshman standout
Chad Bohls got the team on track by winning the 1000 in a time of 10:28.55, which was good for a 5 second drop from his previous season best time.
Matthew Washnock followed with his best 200 Free of the season, turning in a 1:53.64, which was good for second. He was joined in the event by
Tyler Mathews, who also turned in his best time of the season with a 1:55.46.
Berry responded with a win in the 100 Backstroke before
Alex Rejaee and
Campbell Delahoyde marked a 1-2 finish for the Lynx in the 100 Breast. Rejaee clocked in at a 1:03.89, while Delahoyde touched at 1:07.14. Berry answered with wins in the 200 Fly and 100 Free to take a 33-26 lead into the first break.
Determined not to let the meet slip away,
Matthew Washnock turned in his best performance in the 100 Free of the season, winning in a time of 50.65, while
Erik Campbell finished second to knot the score at 34. The Lynx would not look back. Senior
Alex Herran claimed first in the 200 Back with a 2:05.49,
Alex Rejaee touched first in the 200 Breast with a 2:18.16, and
Chad Bohls claimed first in the 500 with another season best 5:03.12. Bohls' time moves him up to 9th in the SCAC standings heading into the conference championships. Berry kept themselves in the meet with a win in the 100 Fly, but
Alex Rejaee locked up the W for the Lynx with a first place 2:05.46 in the 200 IM.
The 200 Freestyle Relay was won by Berry, but senior
Erik Campbell turned in a phenomenal split of 21.92 to anchor the Rhodes squad. Rhodes' final meet of the season will be the SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships held February 15-18 in Rockwall, TX. The Lynx are poised to turn in some stellar performances to close out their final season in the SCAC.
