The Rhodes Lynx lost a tough fought conference battle at Austin College on Saturday, January 14th. The Lynx competed for a full twenty minutes, but could not get enough shots to fall. Shooting just 28% in the second half cost the Lynx down the stretch as they lost to the Austin College Roos 68 to 59.
It went back and forth over the first twenty minutes as the Lynx grabbed a one point lead going into the locker room. With under three minutes remaining, the Lynx looked as though they were going to grab a nice lead into the break, but some unfortunate fouls cost the Lynx some offensive chances.
Johnny Dunavant paced the Lynx with ten points as they were winning 31 - 30 at intermission.
Austin came out of the half and took a game-high 45 - 35 lead with 14:54 remaining. The Lynx would not back down, but could not grab the lead the rest of the night. Down 60 to 55, Austin guard Ransom Okpala hit a contested two point field goal as the shot clock buzzer expired to give Austin a 7 point lead with one minutes to play. Rhodes held the Roos to 37.5% shooting, but their 19 turnovers came back to bite them as they fell 68 to 59.
Rhodes finished the night with three players in double-figures . Sophomore
Johnny Dunavant paced the Lynx with 13 points, while
Shane Watson and
Kory Kilpatrick added 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Lynx move to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference. Rhodes will have a week to get ready for next week's home games against Hendrix College on Friday at 8pm and Colorado College on Sunday at 1pm.
