Hunter Chandler, a recently graduated senior from Gainesville, GA, has been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He is one of 56 student-athletes nationally to receive the award.
"Hunter was a special student-athlete for the baseball program. It is rare that a pitcher out of the bullpen is selected as the Most Valuable Player of the team, but Hunter was the back-to-back MVP in 2010 and 2011. He is the true definition of a student-athlete at Rhodes," said Lynx Head Baseball Coach
Jeff Cleanthes. Coach Cleanthes went on to say, "I have not coached anyone who was as determined as Hunter to succeed on the field and yet displayed the true sense of sportsmanship to his teammates and his competition. I wish Hunter the best in his life and I am certain he will succeed in the business world with the same sense of integrity he displayed on the diamond for us the past 4 years."
Hunter graduated Phi Beta Kappa in May with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average in Economics and Business. He plans to pursue an MBA at the College of Charleston. As a relief pitcher Hunter compiled a 13-6 career record with 11 saves and a 3.15 ERA. During the 2011 season he was 5-2 with 5 saves and a 1.48 ERA. Hunter holds Rhodes baseball records with a 1.48 ERA in a season, 22 appearances and a career 3.15 ERA. Off the field, Hunter served as a Peer Tutor and Resident Assistant his junior and senior years.
Sandy Henin, a recently graduated senior from Cordova, TN, was also selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Rhodes is the only NCAA Division III institution with two recipients and joins Division I institutions Princeton, Stanford, UCLA, UC-San Diego and BYU with two recipients.
