The Rhodes College Baseball team defeated visiting Hendrix College 6-5 this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  Rhodes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first but were unable to hold the lead until senior 1B Brent Lindsey doubled to left center scoring sophomore Lynden Pindling to tie the game at 5 in the bottom of the seventh.  Freshman Josh Berkey delievered the final blow with a two out walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.  Senior RHP Hunter Chandler collected his 5th victory of the season working the final three innings.

Junior RHP Austin Carden worked the first 6 innings allowing 5 runs, on 7 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 7.  Chandler entered the game in the top of the 7th and would throw the final 3 frames.  Chandler allowed 1 hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out 4 to improve his record to 5-2 on the year.

The Lynx offense got off to a quick start this afternoon, hitting 2 homeruns in the bottom of the first and finished the day with 15 hits.  Senior RF Andrew Meier was 2-5 with a run scored.  Senior LF Matt Gilbert was 1-4 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, run scored, and walked once.  Sophomore SS Lynden Pindling was 2-4 with a double and 3 runs scored.  Freshman DH Patrick Kilkenny was 2-5 with a homerun, 2 RBIs, and scored a run.  Freshman 2B Stewart Martens was 2-4 with a walk and 2 stolen bases.  Senior C Chris Conkell and junior CF Travis Perkins were 2-4 on the day. Freshman OF Josh Berkey's only plate appearance was his walk-off single in the ninth.   Berkey entered the game as a pinch runner for Conkell in the bottom of the 8th.  Senior 1B Brent Lindsey was 1-4 with a double and an RBI.  Lindsey's double in the seventh inning was his 200th career hit.  Lindsey is the 30th player in SCAC history and 5th player in Rhodes baseball history to reach this career milestone.

During Saturday's game senior RHP Hunter Chandler broke the single season record for appearances, making his 22nd appearance of the season.  The Rhodes pitching staff also broke the single season strikeout record from 2007 (307), as it is now set at 314.

Rhodes will return to action tomorrow at 1:00 against Hendrix.
