The Rhodes College baseball team defeated visiting Centre College 16-6 in the rubber match of the this weekend's conference series.  Rhodes jumped out to and early 7-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam by sophomore DH Matt Burnick.  Senior RHP Andy Meier picked up his second victory of the year working the first 5 innings before handing the ball over to junior RHP Brian Lainoff for the final two frames.  Rhodes is now 15-15 on the year and 6-3 in SCAC play.

After the Lynx scored 7 in the bottom of the 1st, Centre scored 4 of their own in the top of the 3rd.  Rhodes responded with a single run of their own in the bottom of the 3rd.  The Colonels then put another run on the board in the top of the 4th and the Lynx answered with 2 of their own to make it 10-5 in the favor of the Lynx after 4.  Rhodes would then put up 4 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to make it 16-5.  Centre put up a single run in the top of the 7th before the run rule was enacted after the top half of the inning for a 16-6 final.

Senior RHP Andy Meier allowed 5 earned runs on 5 hits, allowed 5 walks, and struck out 2 in 5 innings of work.  Junior RHP Brian Lainoff worked the final two frames allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, no walks, and struck out 3.

The Lynx offense got this going early with a lead-off double by sophomore SS Lynden Pindling and did not stop until they had put up 16 runs on 16 hits.  The Lynx offense was paced by Pindling who was 3-5 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and scored a run.  Sophomore DH Matt Burnick was 2-5 with a grand slam, 4 RBIs, and scored twice.  Senior LF Matt Gilbert was 2-4 with 3 runs scored and walked once.  Senior RF Brent Lindsey was 2-4 with a homerun, an RBI, 3 runs, and a walk.  Senior C Chris Conkell was 2-4 with an RBI, 3 runs scored, an a walk.  Senior 3B Kyle Peterson was 1-3 with a double, 3 RBIs, scored a run, and walked twice.  Senior 1B Brogan Jayne was 2-2 with a double, 2 RBIs, scored a run, and walked twice.  Freshman OF Patrick Kilkenny  was 1-1 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Rhodes will return to action this Tuesday at 3:30 against visiting Millsaps College.
