The Rhodes College Baseball team defeated Sewanee twice this afternoon on the road, taking the first game 2-1 and the second 15-1.  Junior RHP Austin Carden earned his 3rd victory in the first game and sophomore RHP Jackson Baker collected his 3rd victory of the season in the second game.  Senior RHP Hunter Chandler collected his 5th save of the season in game 1.  The Lynx offense was lead by senior OF Andrew Meier who was 3-7 at the plate with a double, 4 runs, an RBI, got hit by a pitch and stole 6 bases.  Rhodes is now 20-17 and 10-4 in SCAC play.

In the first game, Rhodes jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the first, before Sewanee tied it at 1-1 in the second.  The game would remain tied until senior Andrew Meier scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 5th to give the Lynx a 2-1 lead.  Junior RHP Austin Carden improved to 3-6 on the year working the first 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, walking 2, and striking out 4.  Senior RHP Hunter Chandler worked the 7th en route to his 5th save of the year.  Chandler allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 in his lone inning of work.  The Lynx offense was led by Meier who was 1-2 with 2 runs scored, got hit by a pitch, and stole 3 bases.  With the victory in the first game, Rhodes will now be the #1 seed from the Eastern Division in next week's conference tournament.

In the second game, Sewanee took an early 1-0 after the first inning of play, but the Lynx were able to respond with 4 in top of the 2nd, 1 in the 4th, and 2 in 5th to take a 7-1 lead after 5 innings of play.  Rhodes would put up 2 more runs in the 7th and finished off the days scoring with 6 more in the 9th to make a 15-1 final.  Sophomore RHP Jackson Baker improved to 3-2 on the year as he worked the first 6 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked 1, and struck out 7.  Junior RHP Brian Lainoff worked the 7th and did not allow a runner to reach base.  Junior RHP Remick Smothers worked the 8th allowing only 1 hit.  Freshman LHP Max Halasz threw the 9th for the Lynx, striking out 1.  The Lynx offense was led by senior C Matt Frank who was 3-5 with a run scored, an RBI, walked once, and stole a base.  Senior RF Andrew Meier was 2-5 with a double, 2 runs scored, drove in 1, and stole 3 bases.  Sophomore SS Lynden Pindling was 2-6 with a double, run scored and an RBI.  Freshman OF Josh Berkey was 1-2 with a run scored and a RBI.  Senior 1B Brent Lindsey was 1-2 with a run scored.  3 walks, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base.  Freshman 2B Stewart Martens was a run scored, an RBI, walked once, and stole a base.  Freshman 3B Strother White was 1-1 with an RBI, run scored, and walked once.  Junior CF Travis Perkins was 1-2 with 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and walked 3 times.  With the victory in the in second game, the 2011 senior class earned their 100th career victory. 

Rhodes will return to action tomorrow against Sewanee at 1:00 in their final conference game of the year.
