Lynx Take Two from Tigers

Rhodes Softball took a pair of games this afternoon from Sewanee, winning game 1 by a score of 18-0 and game to by a score of 8-0.  Cindy Bitters tossed her second no-hitter of the season in game 1 to earn the win, while Rebekah Moore and Sara Bowen homered to lead the Lynx offense.  Bowen picked up her 12th win of the season in game 2, giving up just 1 hit, while  Moore added another round-tripper and Kelli Zomer had 3 hits to pace the Lynx offense. 

Kelli Zomer led off game 1 with a triple off the right field wall, Rebekah Moore added a 3-run home run, and Allison Conn had a pair of RBI singles, as the Lynx put 8 runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back.  Moore finished the game 2 for 4 with 4 RBI, while Megan Matthews was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI and Conn was a perfect 3 for 3 with 2 RBI to lead a Lynx offense that pounded out 17 hits en route to the 18-0 victory.  

Cindy Bitters tossed her second no-hitter of the season to improve to 3-0, walking 1 and striking out 6 Tiger hitters.  

Rhodes would get on the board first again in game 2, as Zomer again led off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Carly Evans.  Moore then delivered her second homer of the day to give the Lynx the 2-0 lead after 1 inning.  For Moore, it was the 152nd base hit of her career, making her the Lynx all-time hits leader.  

The Lynx tacked on 3 more runs in the second on an RBI single from Jennifer Whatley and another sacrifiice fly from Evans, then added 2 more in the 5th on a 2-out single from Chelsea Peters to make it 7-0 after 5 innings.  Rhodes' final run came in the 6th, when Zomer singled, advanced to third on an error, then scored on an RBI single from Conn to seal the 8-0 mercy-rule win.

Bowen picked up the win, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 16 hitters, to improve to 12-5 on the season.  Zomer was 3 for 4 with a triple, while Evans and Peters each had a pair of RBI to lead the Lynx offense.

Rhodes is 25-13 and 6-8 in the SCAC, while Sewanee falls to 2-15 and 0-14 in the SCAC.  The two teams will square off again tomorrow in a doubleheader at Noon.  Prior to the game, Rhodes will honor the 4 members of the Class of 2010, Karli Alvino, Jennifer Whatley, Rebekah Moore, and Armanda Venezia.
