The Rhodes College baseball team took both ends of this afternoon's double header against Sewanee, by the scores of 4-0 and 10-5. Junior
Hunter Chandler picked up the victory in the first game and freshman
Tony Pikos did the same in the second. With the first game victory, Rhodes punched their ticket for next weekend's conference tournament in Millington, TN. Rhodes is now 24-13 on the year and 8-6 in SCAC play.
In the first game of the day, Chandler went the distance for the Lynx, throwing a 7 inning complete game shut out. This was not only Chandler's first complete game and his first shut out of the year, but also of his career. On the day, Chandler allowed 6 hits, no runs, no walks, and struck out 7. Chandler is now 3-0 on the year.
Sophomore LF
Travis Perkins paced the Lynx offense going 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a walk. Junior 1B
Brent Lindsey was 2-3 with a walk. Junior C
Chris Conkell was 2-3 with a run scored. Senior SS
Brooks Royer went 1-2 with 2 runs scored. Junior 3B
Kyle Peterson went 2-3 with an RBI.
In the second game of the day, Pikos went 6.2 innings, allowed 10 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks, and struck out 9. Senior
Max Gertz relieved Pikos in the 7th getting a quick out and then worked the 8th. Gertz did not allow a hit or run in his 1.1 innings of work. Freshman
James Todd then worked the 9th, getting 3 quick out to end the ball game. Pikos is now 2-3 on the year.
The Lynx offense was led by junior LF
Matt Gilbert who was 2-3 at the plate with a double, 3 runs scored, an RBI, 2 walks, and stole 2 bases. Freshman DH
Matt Burnick was 2-5 with a double, and 2 RBIs. Freshman SS
Lynden Pindling was 1-3 with a double, 2 runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base. Junior 1B
Brent Lindsey was 1-3 with 3 RBIs, a run scored, and walked once. Senior CF
Brandon Valentine was 1-3 with a double, an RBI, scored twice, walked once, and stole 2 bases.
Rhodes will finish the weekend series at Sewanee tomorrow afternoon at 1:00.
