Rhodes swept a pair of games from Berry and Lagrange this afternoon by scores of 6-5 and 10-3, improving to 8-4 on the season.  In game 1, the Lynx trailed 3-0 in the 6th, but for the 3rd consecutive game, came up with the big hits and forced extra innings.  Elise Suna's 2-run double in the bottom of the 6th capped a 3-run inning that tied the score, and Megan Matthews singled in Jennifer Whatley in the 9th to seal the come from behind win. In game 2, Suna homered twice, including a grand slam, to lead the Lynx to a 10-3 victory.

Berry scored 3 runs on 2 hits and an error in the 5th to take a 3-0 lead, but for the 3rd straight game, Rhodes produced clutch hits late in the game.  Matthews led off the 6th with a double and came around to score on a single from Moore.  After a single from Sara Bowen, Suna doubled to center, scoring Moore and Bowen and knotting the score at 3.

Neither team could score in the 7th, forcing extra innings.  Berry picked up a run in the top half of the 8th on a 2-out double from Lindsey Lowe, and carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 8th.  Allison Conn was placed on second to start the inning per the international tie breaker rules, and advanced to third on a groundout by Bowen.  With 2 outs, Suna again came up big, punching a single to right field to score Conn and tie the score at 4.  The Lynx were unable to push another run across, forcing the game into the 9th inning.

Berry plated another run in the 9th with another 2-out hit, carrying a 5-4 lead into the bottom half of the 9th.  With Venezia on second under the tie-breaker rules, Jennifer Whatley blooped a single into right, just out of the reach of the diving right fielder from Berry and scoring Venezia to tie the game.  The ball skipped away from the defense, allowing Whatley to advance to third with heads up baserunning.  With 2 outs and Whatley at third, Matthews delivered her second game-winning hit in as many games with a single to right, giving the Lynx the 6-5 win.

Bowen pitched the complete game for the Lynx, striking out 19 and giving up just 4 hits, improving to 3-2 on the season.  Suna went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and 3 RBI, while Bowen and Whatley each had 2 hits to pace the Lynx offense.

In the second game, Rhodes squared off against Lagrange for the third time this season, having taken a pair of games from the Panthers at Lagrange on February 21 by scores of 4-1 and 6-2.    Lagrange jumped out in front early, scoring twice in the first on a pair of bunt singles and two RBI groundouts to take a 2-0 lead after 1 inning.

Bowen and Suna led off the second inning with back to back solo home runs to tie the score at 2, followed by a walk to Venezia and a single by Katie Stich.  Whatley reached on an error, allowing Venezia to score, and Stich would score on a passed ball, giving the Lynx a 4-2 lead after 2 innings.

Lagrange added another run in the top of the 3rd to cut the lead to 4-3, but Rhodes added 4 more in the 3rd, courtesy of a grand slam from Suna.  Conn and Rebekah Moore led off the inning with back to back singles, then after Bowen drew a walk, Suna delivered her second home run of the game, giving the Lynx an 8-3 lead after 3 innings.

With the Lynx still leading 8-3 in the 5th, Stich drew a 2-out walk, and freshman Carly Evans picked up the first hit of her college career with a single to left.  Kelli Zomer stepped to the plate and drilled a double to right center, scoring Stich and Evans and pushing the Lynx lead to 10-3.

Chelsea Peters shut the door on the Panthers in the 7th, pitching a complete game and improving to 5-2 on the season.  After giving up 4 hits and 3 runs in the first 3 innings, she settled down, allowing just one hit over the final 4 innings, retiring 13 of the final 14 Panther hitters.

Suna finished the game 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs and 5 RBI, while Zomer was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI to pace the Lynx offense.

Rhodes improves to 8-4 on the season, and returns to action Tuesday against MacMurray.
