Lynx Defeat Centre 11-8

The Rhodes College baseball team finished their 3 game conference series with Centre College in Danville, KY this afternoon with a 11-8 victory.  Both teams got the offense going early, with Rhodes leading 8-5 after 2.  Junior RF Matt Gilbert highlighted the 7 run Rhodes 2nd with a 3 run shot to right field.  Centre would tie the game 8-8 in the bottom of the 5th, before Rhodes countered with a single run in the 6th.  Junior C Chris Conkell gave the Lynx some breathing room with a 2 run home run in the top of the ninth.  Junior Taylor Babich picked up his 3rd victory of the year as freshman Jackson Baker earned his 1st save.  Rhodes is now 19-7 and 5-1 in SCAC play.

Babich threw 5 innings allowing 8 hits, 8 runs, 7 earned, walked 1, and struck out 3 en route to his 3rd victory.  Babich is now 3-1 on the year.  Junior Hunter Chandler threw the 6th inning for the Lynx and did not allow a hit or run.  Jackson Baker entered the game in the bottom of the 7th, throwing 3 innings, allowed 1 hit, no runs, 2 walks, and struck out 4.  

The Lynx offense was led by junior 1B Brent Lindsey who was 2-3 on the day with a double, scored a run, drove in 1, and walked twice.  Junior RF Matt Gilbert was 1- 5 with a home run, run scored, and 3 RBIs.  Junior C Chris Conkell was 1-3 with a home run, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, and walked twice.

Rhodes will return to action this coming weekend as they travel to Greencastle, IN to take on DePauw University.
