Panther hurler Ronni Ferris tossed a perfect game and Birmingham Southern pounded out 16 hits to win game 1 8-0 in 5 innings. In game 2, Lynx pitcher
Sara Bowen and the Panthers' Tori Harris held the bats at bay for most of the game, as the Panthers edged the Lynx 3-2 in 10 innings.
In game 2, Birmingham Southern picked up a run in the 3rd on a sacrifice fly, and Rhodes tied the game in the 7th on back to singles from
Elise Suna and
Olivia Ryan. Suna would score the tying run on an Panther error to send the game to extra innings. The Lynx put their leadoff hitter on in each of the 8th and 9th innings, but were unable to score. In the bottom of the 9th, Panther shortstop Jenna Franks led off with a triple, but Bowen retired the next 3 Panthers to send the game to the 10th.
With the tie-breaker rule in effect for the 10th,
Kelli Zomer started the 10th on second base for the Lynx, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from
Megan Matthews, and came around to score on a passed ball to give the Lynx a 2-1 lead. Birmingham Southern started the 10th with a sacrifice bunt, then scored the tying run on a grounder to second that the runner beat to the plate. After a stolen base, the Panthers scored the game winning run on 2 passed balls to win the game 3-2.
Rhodes falls to 19-9 on the season and 1-5 in the SCAC, while Birmingham Southern improves to 15-3 and 6-0 in the SCAC. The teams meet in another twinbill tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
