The Rhodes College baseball team completed the weekend sweep of conference foe Oglethorpe University this afternoon with a 7-6 11 inning victory at Stauffer Field. Rhodes trailed 3-1 after 3, tied the game at 3 in the 4th, and then fell behind again until they tied in the bottom of the ninth. The Lynx won the game on a
Chris Conkell single in the bottom of the 11th. Sophomore
Austin Carden picked up the win after coming out the pen in the 10th. Rhodes is now 17-6 on the year and 3-0 in SCAC play.
Junior
Taylor Babich threw the first 4 innings for the Lynx, allowing 8 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, 2 walks, and struck out 5. Babich handed the ball over to junior
Hunter Chandler in the top of the fifth and Chandler would work the next 5 innings. Chandler allowed 5 hits, 1 earned run, no walks, and struck out 9. Carden would work the final two frames, allowing 1 hit, no walks, no runs, and struck out 1. Carden is now 4-2 on the year.
The Lynx offense was led by junior RF
Matt Gilbert who was 4-6 on the day with a triple, 2 runs scored, an RBI, and stole a base. Junior 1B
Brent Lindsey was 2-5 with a double and a walk. Junior CF Andy Meier was 2-5 with a run scored, drove in 1, walked once, and stole a base. Freshman 3B
Nick Belisle was 2-5 on the day. Freshman
Matt Burnick had a huge pinch hit 2 RBI single in the bottom of the 5th to keep the Lynx within striking distance.
Rhodes will take to the road this weekend as they travel to Danville, KY for a 3 game conference set with Centre College.
