The Rhodes College baseball team completed their Spring Break trip to North Carolina this afternoon with a 7-5 victory over Greensboro College. The Lynx fell behind 3-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, but were able to answer with a 4 runs in the 3rd, highlighted by a 2 run home run by junior
Matt Gilbert, and 3 runs in the 4th. Greensboro would put up a single run in the 4th and another single run in the eigth. Freshman
James Todd picked up his first collegiate victory working 3 innings out of the pen. The Lynx improved thier record to 14-6 on the season.
Sophomore
Brian Lainoff started the game for the Lynx working 3 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, and 1 strikeout. Sophomore
Remick Smothers got Lainoff out of a jam in the bottom of the 4th, getting 3 quick outs to end the innning. Freshman
James Todd entered the game in the bottom of the 5th and worked the next 3+ innings. Todd allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and struck out 4. Todd is now 1-0 on the year. Junior
Matt Ungashick relieved Todd with runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out in the bottom of the 8th. Ungashick got 2 ground balls and a strikeout to quick Greensboro rally. Junior
Taylor Babich collected his first save of the season throwing a perfect 9th inning.
The Rhodes offense was paced by senior 2B
Andy Boucher who was 3-4 on the day with 2 runs, an RBI, one walk, and stole a base. Junior DH
Brent Lindsey was 2-4 with a double, run scored, 3 RBIs, sac fly, and stole a base. Junior RF
Matt Gilbert was 1-3 with a home run, run scored, 2 RBIs, one walk, and stole a base.
Rhodes will return to action this Saturday and Sunday against Oglethorpe University to open conference play.
