The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Methodist University this afternoon in Fayetteville, NC 6-1.  After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Rhodes put up 2 in the 3rd, 3 in the 5th, and 1 in the 8th.  Junior CF Andy Meier hit a two run home run in the fifth to give the Lynx some breathing room.  Sophomore Austin Carden collected his 3rd victory of the season as the Lynx improved to 13-6 on the year.

Carden worked the first 4 innings of the designed pitcher by committee outing by the Lynx pitching staff.  Carden allowed 6 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and struck out 1, as he improved to 3-2 on the year.  Junior Hunter Chandler relieved Carden in the 5th, working 2 innings, allowed, 4 hits, and struck out 1.  Senior Max Gertz worked the 8th, striking out 1 and allowed a hit.  Junior Taylor Babich threw a perfect 9th, striking out the side.

The Lynx offense was led by junior CF Andy Meier who was 3-4 on the day with a home run, double, 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and walked once.  Junior RF Matt Gilbert was 3-3 with a run scored, 1 walk, and stole 2 bases.  Junior 1B Brent Lindsey was 2-5 with a double and 2 runs scored.

Rhodes will conclude their spring trip tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 against Greensboro College.
