Rhodes Softball defeated Emory 2-0 this morning behind a 4-hit shutout from Cheslea Peters. She struck out 7 and walked 1 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Elise Suna delivered a 2-out, 2 run double in the 4th to propel the Lynx to victory.
Emory opened the game with a pair of bunt singles, and advanced runners to second and third with no outs on a passed ball. Peters and the Lynx defense rose to the occassion, retiring 3 consecutive Eagles on a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to get out of the jam withou allowing a run.
Peters and Emory starter Bridgett Holloway kept the offenses at bay through the first 3 innings, but the Lynx were able to plate 2 runs in the 4th. A single by
Allison Conn, followed by a 2-out single from
Sara Bowen put runners on first and second for Suna. Suna ripped the first pitch to right center for a 2-run double, giving the Lynx a 2-0 lead after 4 innings.
That would be all of the support Peters would need, as she allowd just a pair of singles over the final 3 innings, retiring 9 of the last 11 Eagle hitters. She allowed just 4 hits on the day while striking out 7 hitters, improving her record to 2-1 on the season. Suna led the Lynx offense with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.
Rhodes improves to 3-2 on the season, while Emory falls to 3-6.
