Seniors Rachel and Elizabeth Bernard, Cybil Covic, and Julia Goss have been elected captains of the Women's Track & Field program for the 2009-2010 Indoor and Outdoor season.
Rachel and Elizabeth, Biology majors from Southlake, TX, are 400m hurdle specialists and are coming off a very successful 2009 season where they placed 5th and 8th respectively at the SCAC Conference Championship. Their steady improvement over their three years at Rhodes demonstrates a dedication and work ethic that will set an example for the younger athletes.
Cybil, who spent last spring semester studying conservation Biology in Kenya, rejoins the track team for her senior year. Also this year's Cross Country captain and a NCAA National Qualifier for the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Cybil, a Biology major from Cordova, TN, looks to lead a very talented and deep group of athletes to their third consecutive SCAC conference Championship.
Julia, whose excellent junior year included qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the long jump and leading the 4x400m relay team to the SCAC title, will continue to contribute her many talents and abilities to the team. A Biology major from St. Louis, MO, she will lead a core group of sprinters as they seek to qualify for the NCAA Championships in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
These four seniors – Bernard, Bernard, Covic and Goss – lead a talented squad of athletes that looks to improve on last year's results. Their commitment and hard work over their past three seasons as well as their leadership abilities will form the cornerstone of the 2010 Track & Field program. With such strong captains guiding the team, the Lady Lynx are looking forward to the season ahead.
