At Saint James School, Leighton was named First Team All-County, Second Team All-County, two-time First Team All- Independent-Parochial School League, served as the lacrosse captain, served two years as wrestling and football captains, named All Mid-American Conference in wrestling, awarded the Senior Athletic Award, awarded the Coaches Award for both wrestling and lacrosse, and earned the Admiral Holloway Award. Leighton is the son of Brandon and Haven Younger.
