Game Recap: Rhodes vs. University of the Ozarks (Ark.)
The Rhodes College men's soccer team opened its season with a 2-1 victory over the University of the Ozarks on Sept. 1 at the Thomas and Frances Wilson Complex in Clarksville, Ark. The Lynx built a two-goal advantage in the first half before holding off a second-half push from the Eagles.
Key Performances
Paxton O'Leary opened the scoring for the Lynx in the 30th minute, finding the back of the net at 29:45 off an assist from
Evan Holsinger.
Zach Cardona doubled the Rhodes advantage at 39:26, scoring off another assist from Holsinger. With two assists on the night, Holsinger played a key role in both of the Lynx's first-half goals.
In goal,
Henri Kettner recorded four saves as Rhodes held on for the victory. The Lynx limited Ozarks to five shots on goal while recording 10 of their own.
Game Highlights
Rhodes struck first in the 30th minute when O'Leary converted Holsinger's assist to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. Less than 10 minutes later, Cardona found the back of the net to extend the advantage to 2-0 heading into halftime.
The Eagles answered in the 65th minute cutting the Rhodes lead to 2-1. The Lynx defense held firm over the final 25 minutes, limiting Ozarks to its one second-half goal while securing the road victory.
Rhodes finished with a 16-11 advantage in shots and put 10 shots on goal compared to five for Ozarks.
