Women's Lacrosse Falls to Lynchburg in Overtime Thriller

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. University of Lynchburg

To wrap up this year's spring break trip, the Rhodes College Women's Lacrosse Team battled in overtime to the University of Lynchburg Hornets by a final score of 16–15 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The tightly contested game featured multiple lead changes and a dramatic finish, as the Lynx forced overtime with a late push.

Key Performances

Payton Stevens led the Rhodes offense with four goals, repeatedly finding space in the Hornets' defense and scoring during key stretches of the game. Alban Erdle matched Stevens' output with four goals, including the go-ahead score with one minute remaining in regulation that nearly secured the victory for the Lynx.

Sadie McRae contributed across the board with two goals and three assists, playing a critical role in Rhodes' offensive rhythm. Caroline Kardian also added two goals, while Riley Schutt, Sam Horowitz, and Delaney O'Mailey each contributed goals to round out the balanced Lynx attack.

Here is a revised Defensive Effort section that reflects the corrected stats and removes timestamps while highlighting Rhodes players:

Defensive Effort

Rhodes matched its offensive production with a determined defensive effort, finishing the game with 17 ground balls and nine caused turnovers while consistently pressuring Lynchburg's attack. The Lynx defense forced key stops throughout the contest to keep the game within reach. Goalkeeper Annabelle Kinzel anchored the back line, recording seven saves across more than 62 minutes in goal, helping Rhodes withstand sustained offensive pressure from the Hornets. In front of her, Delaney O'Mailey made a major defensive impact with three ground balls and one caused turnover, while Erdle added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maddie BeVier and Sadie McRae each contributed a caused turnover, helping disrupt Lynchburg's offensive rhythm. Additional defensive contributions came from Cadyn Hacke, who collected two ground balls and a caused turnover, and Rory Monahan, who added two ground balls to support the Lynx defensive effort. Together, the Rhodes defense remained active throughout the field, generating stops and transition opportunities that kept the Lynx competitive through regulation and into overtime.

Game Highlights

Lynchburg opened the game with a quick three-goal run, but Rhodes responded with a surge of its own. Goals from Sadie McRae, Caroline Kardian, and a pair of power-play finishes tied the contest at 4–4 by the end of the first quarter. The Lynx gained momentum in the second quarter, as Stevens scored three goals during the frame and Riley Schutt added another to help Rhodes build an 8–5 lead before Lynchburg closed the half with three late goals to even the score at 8–8. Rhodes continued to battle in the second half, with Erdle scoring twice in the third quarter

to keep the Lynx within striking distance. The fourth quarter delivered the most dramatic moments of the game, as Stevens and Horowitz helped Rhodes erase a two-goal deficit before Erdle's goal with 1:00 remaining gave the Lynx a 15–14 lead. Lynchburg responded with a late equalizer with 42 seconds remaining, forcing overtime before the Hornets scored the game-winning goal midway through the extra period.
