Baseball Goes Undefeated in Home Opening Weekend

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Concordia University Chicago

In a momentum-filled showdown at Stauffer Field on February 20, the Rhodes College baseball team erased an early five-run deficit to defeat Concordia Chicago, 11–7. The Lynx used a five-run fourth inning and dominant relief pitching to secure the comeback victory and improve to 3–1 on the season.

Key Performances

Austin Smith led the offense in game one, finishing three-for-four with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Cooper Angilly also helped offensively, going two-for-three, including a double, drove in a run, and added a stolen base. Nathan Shumway (W) was outstanding in relief, tossing six innings while allowing just three hits and two runs with no walks. He settled the game after the early surge and kept Concordia off balance. William May closed the door with a scoreless ninth.


Game 2 Recap: Rhodes vs. Franklin College

The Rhodes College baseball team used a dominant middle-inning surge to pull away from Franklin, earning a 10–4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Stauffer Field. After five scoreless innings, the Lynx exploded for 10 runs across the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to improve the Lynx's winning record.

Key Performances

Cooper Kuriger finished two-for-three with a double and four RBIs, delivering the game's biggest hit. Cooper Angilly went two-for-two with three RBIs and a stolen base in a clutch relief appearance. Rhodes starter Reid Manti was sharp, allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings while striking out four. Andrew Carron earned the win in relief, allowing one run in just over one inning. Jackson Stanyard added two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.


Game 3 Recap: Rhodes vs. U Chicago

In a competitive matchup against the Maroons, the Rhodes College baseball team finished the weekend 3-0 with a final score of 13-2. The contest featured consistent offense to help the Lynx end the game in 7 innings.
 
Key Performances
 
Ben Daniel and Cooper Angilly both led Rhodes at the plate, finishing three-for-four, leading to them being two of the Lynx's key offensive players. Marco Nunez also contributed with four RBIs, and going three-for-five, helping Rhodes build the lead against the Maroons. On the mound, Daniel recorded three strikeouts in just over three innings. Relief pitcher David Albert came in to shut the Maroons down with three scoreless innings, recording three strikeouts.
 
Up Next: Lynx to Host DePauw University & Illinois Wesleyan
Rhodes returns home next weekend for a busy weekend at Stauffer Field in Memphis. The Lynx open with a single game against DePauw on Friday, February 27, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM. On Saturday, February 28, the Lynx take on Illinois Wesleyan at 2:00 PM. Rhodes then closes the weekend Sunday, March 1, competing in back-to-back games, first playing DePauw University at 10:30 AM, with game two against Illinois Wesleyan set for 2:00 PM. With momentum building and an undefeated home record, the Lynx will look to defend their home field this upcoming weekend.
