Men’s Basketball Dominates SAA Weekend, Defeating Oglethorpe and Berry

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Oglethorpe University

The Rhodes College men's basketball team delivered a wire-to-wire performance on Friday night, knocking off Oglethorpe 84–66 on January 30, 2026, inside Dorough Fieldhouse in Atlanta, Georgia. The Lynx showcased balanced scoring, perimeter efficiency, and control on the glass to secure their 15th win of the season and improve to 6–1 in SAA play.

Rhodes seized control early, shooting efficiently and pushing the tempo to take a 48–34 lead at the half. The Lynx never trailed in the contest, maintaining steady separation throughout the second half behind consistent offensive execution and strong defensive rebounding.

Key Performances

Sophomore Sam Maddox led the Lynx with 21 points, knocking down seven three-pointers to pace Rhodes' perimeter attack. Jackson Huxtable matched Maddox with 21 points, adding five rebounds and three assists while attacking from all three levels. Shawn Jones Jr. turned in a flawless shooting night, going 6-for-6 from the field en route to 16 points and seven rebounds. Inside, Jack Dempsey anchored the paint with a dominant rebounding effort, pulling down 16 rebounds to go along with seven points, helping Rhodes win the rebounding battle 44–29.

The Lynx also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 22 points off offensive rebounds, while finishing with 40 points in the paint.

Game Highlights

Rhodes opened the game with an aggressive offensive rhythm, building an early cushion behind hot shooting and strong ball movement. Oglethorpe attempted to respond late in the first half, but the Lynx closed the period on a run to extend the margin to double digits. In the second half, Rhodes maintained control by limiting Oglethorpe's three-point shooting and dominating the glass, never allowing the Stormy Petrels to cut the deficit to single digits.

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Berry College

In a high-intensity Southern Athletic Association matchup marked by early control and timely responses, the Rhodes College men's basketball team defeated Berry, 80–68, on February 1, 2026, at the Cage Center in Rome, Georgia. The contest featured a dominant first half and steady execution down the stretch, reflecting the Lynx's poise and balance on the road.

Rhodes jumped out quickly, shooting efficiently and moving the ball well to build a 42–25 halftime advantage. Berry responded with an aggressive second-half push, but the Lynx weathered the surge and closed out the win with key stops and free throws.

Key performances

The Lynx were led by veteran Jackson Huxtable, who paced all scorers with 24 points while adding seven rebounds, two steals, and a block. His ability to score at multiple levels helped Rhodes maintain its cushion during Berry's second-half rally. Shawn Jones Jr. followed with 14 points and five rebounds, converting 7-of-9 attempts from the free-throw line.

Off the bench, Phil Dotson provided a spark with 14 points and three assists, while Michael Wilson scored eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting effort in limited minutes. Mason Bennett added eight points as Rhodes finished with 30 bench points.

Game highlights

Rhodes set the tone early with efficient shooting and defensive pressure, opening the contest on a strong run to build a double-digit advantage. The Lynx carried that momentum into halftime with a 42–25 lead after limiting Berry's perimeter looks and controlling the glass. Berry mounted a second-half push, cutting into the deficit behind improved shooting, but Rhodes answered with timely baskets and composed free-throw shooting to halt the rally and secure the road win.

The weekend sweep was especially notable, marking just the third time Rhodes has defeated both Oglethorpe and Berry in Atlanta in the same season, joining the 2012–13 and 2014–15 campaigns.

Up Next: Rhodes vs. Trinity University

The Lynx return to action as conference play continues on February 6 against Trinity University. They will look to carry their momentum forward and remain near the top of the SAA standings.
