Men’s Basketball Edges Millsaps in Road Thriller

In a high-intensity Southern Athletic Association showdown filled with momentum swings and late-game execution, the Rhodes College men's basketball team defeated Millsaps College by a final score of 57–55 on Jan. 23, 2026, at the Hangar Dome in Jackson, Mississippi. The contest featured nine lead changes and five ties, reflecting the Lynx's resilience and composure in a tightly contested road battle.

Key Performances

Trevor Lombard led the scoring effort for the Lynx, recording a game-high 23 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. His perimeter shooting and ability to finish through contact proved critical as Rhodes generated offense in key moments.

Jackson Huxtable followed with 19 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers while also contributing four steals and four assists. His two-way play helped keep Rhodes steady throughout the second half.

Shawn Jones Jr. controlled the offense from the guard position, dishing out seven assists while adding six rebounds and two blocks. Defensively, Jack Dempsey anchored the paint with nine rebounds, helping limit second-chance opportunities down the stretch.

Game Highlights

Rhodes opened the game with strong defensive pressure, taking a narrow 28–27 lead into halftime. Both teams traded baskets throughout the second half as neither side was able to create separation.

The deciding stretch came late in the second half, when Rhodes converted at the free-throw line and made key defensive stops to protect its lead. The Lynx held off Millsaps in the final possessions to secure the two-point victory.
