Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Southwestern University (TX)

In a commanding performance on Sunday afternoon, the Rhodes College men's basketball team defeated Southwestern University by a final score of 89–56 on January 18, 2026, at Mallory Gymnasium. The Lynx controlled the game from start to finish, pairing balanced scoring with a strong rebounding effort to earn their second convincing win of the weekend and continue their climb in the SAA standings.

Key Performances

Shawn Jones Jr. led the way with a strong all-around effort, finishing with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while adding three assists to anchor Rhodes on both ends of the floor. His presence in the paint and activity on the glass helped the Lynx dominate second-chance opportunities.

Jackson Huxtable followed with 15 points, while Trevor Lombard added 13 points on an efficient shooting night, knocking down three three-pointers. Sam Maddox chipped in 10 points, contributing to a balanced offensive attack that saw nine Lynx score.

In the frontcourt, Jack Dempsey provided a spark with nine points and five rebounds in just 20 minutes, while Tyler Jasek added nine points off the bench. Rhodes finished with a decisive 52–37 rebounding advantage, including 22 offensive rebounds.

Game Highlights

Rhodes set the tone early, jumping out to a quick lead behind strong ball movement and interior scoring, and carried a 43–28 advantage into halftime. The Lynx continued to apply pressure in the second half, extending the lead with a 46-point frame while holding Southwestern to just 28 points.

The decisive stretch came as Rhodes dominated the paint and the glass, scoring 44 points in the paint and converting 30 second-chance points, preventing the Pirates from mounting any sustained momentum.

With the win, Rhodes improves to 13–3 overall and 4–1 in SAA play. The Lynx will look to keep rolling as they continue conference action, building off a weekend that featured two strong performances at home in Mallory Gymnasium. They will continue SAA action at home on January 23 at 8PM against Oglethorpe University.
