Volleyball Opens SAA Play 1-2

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Centre College

Rhodes College opened Southern Athletic Association play with a statement win, defeating Centre 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17) on September 20, 2025, at the Bell Center in San Antonio, Texas. The Lynx showcased offensive firepower and defensive grit, rebounding quickly after dropping the second set to close out the match in four.

Key Performances

The attack was led by Meg Gebhart and Yzzi Dsamou, who each tallied 16 kills to fuel the Lynx offense. Setter play was balanced, with Luca Prest distributing 23 assists and Emma Clark adding 22, keeping the Centre defense on its heels throughout the match.

Defensively, Olivia Wiseman anchored the back row with 19 digs, while Caroline Short added 16. At the net, Rachel Clarke was a dominant presence with six blocks, supported by Hope Wehrli's five and Dsamou's four. Wehrli also contributed two service aces, giving Rhodes an extra edge from the line.

Rhodes came out strong in the first set, hitting .438 with 16 kills to secure a 25-17 win. Centre bounced back in the second, taking advantage of Lynx errors to even the match 25-22. The momentum shifted again in the third, where Rhodes controlled key rallies to win 25-20 before closing the match with another decisive 25-17 set. Overall, the Lynx outpaced Centre in kills (55-42), blocks (11-6), and hitting percentage (.228 to .101). 


Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Berry College

Rhodes closed out the first day of SAA play with a tough 3-0 loss to Berry (25-16, 25-18, 25-18). The Lynx battled throughout the match but could not overcome Berry's efficient offense, which hit .337 as a team.

Key Performances

Yzzi Dsamou paced the Lynx with 8 kills, while Caroline Short added 7 and Isabella Kventensky chipped in 5. Emma Clark ran the offense with 12 assists, and Luca Prest contributed 8. Defensively, Olivia Wiseman and Short each tallied 8 digs to keep rallies alive, with Meg Gebhart adding 4. From the service line, Gebhart, Clark, and Prest each recorded an ace.

Game Highlights

Berry controlled the opening set, using a .212 hitting percentage to take a 25-16 win. The Vikings maintained momentum in the second, converting efficiently on offense with 15 kills at a .345 clip. Rhodes pushed back in the third behind 11 kills, but Berry closed the match with its strongest hitting set at .467 to secure the sweep. 
 

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Trinity University

Rhodes wrapped up its Texas road trip with a 3-0 loss to nationally ranked Trinity (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) on September 21, 2025, at the Bell Center in San Antonio. The Lynx battled but could not overcome Trinity's balance at the net, as the Tigers hit .364 while holding Rhodes to just .071.

Key Performances

Yzzi Dsamou led the Lynx attack with 8 kills, followed by Caroline Short with 6. Setters Mackenzie Geer and Emma Clark shared duties, finishing with 8 assists apiece, while Clark also added a service ace. Defensively, Olivia Wiseman anchored the back row with a match-high 16 digs, supported by Meg Gebhart with 8.

Game Highlights

Trinity set the tone early, hitting .433 in the first set to take control 25-13. Rhodes responded with its strongest frame in the second, tallying 11 kills and pushing the Tigers before falling 25-19. Trinity closed out the match in the third with another efficient hitting set (.452), securing the sweep. Overall, the Tigers held advantages in kills (45-24), assists (44-23), and digs (48-36).

Now 7-8 overall and 1-2 in SAA play, Rhodes returns home to face Sewanee on September 27, 2025. The Lynx will look to regroup and continue to improve as conference play continues.
