Lynx Baseball Secure Series Victory Against Hendrix

After a weather delay and relocation, the Rhodes College Baseball team traveled down the road to Millington, Tennessee at USA Stadium for a 3-game conference series against the Hendrix Warriors. The series was set for a double header on Sunday followed by the final game on Monday.

Game 1:

In the first game of the series, the Lynx ace Zac Sohosky too the mound and shut down the opposing Warriors. Sohosky tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, recording 7 strikeouts and just 3 hits. This would be the second 7.0 inning shutout thrown by the reigning SAA Pitcher of the Week.

Offensively, Malcolm Rohlfing continued to shine from the lead off spot as he knocked a clutch RBI double in the top of the 3rd to put the Lynx in front. Later in the 7th, Rohlfing also drove in his second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly to score Ben Burkhart. Also in the 7th, Brandon Trichell stroked a double to right field, scoring Hank Shield and extending the Lynx lead to 3-0.

This allowed the closer, Mick Arney to come on seeking his 3rd save of the season. Arney pitched 2.0 innings allowing just 1 run, effectively closing the door for the Lynx. Rhodes would claim game 1 by a final score of 3-1.

Game 2:

The Lynx offense struggled in game 2 as they were unable to scratch any runs across the board. Brandon Trichell, Myles Kruger, and Ben Daniel were the only players able to get a hit in the contest, and the Lynx split the Sunday doubleheader in a game 2 final score of 8-0.

Game 3:

After splitting the doubleheader, both teams returned to USA Stadium for the rubber match to decide who would win this important conference series. The Lynx offense got off to a slow start, but in the top of the 6th Ben Burkhart blasted a 2 RBI double to score Quinn Blackman and Brandon Trichell and give the Lynx a 2-1 lead. Immediately following, Corbin Kinder hit his first homer of the season, a 3-run shot to extend the Lynx lead. The warriors responded in the bottom of the 6th, making it a 1-run ballgame. A Quinn Blackman double in the top of the 7th would provide a much-needed insurance run for the pitching staff.

Mick Arney took the mound to start for the Lynx, posting 5.2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 4. From there, Will May took the ball and shut down the Warriors in the final 3 frames. May dealt 3.1 innings of shutout baseball to put an end to the Warriors hopes.

This collective performance from the offense and the pitching staff propelled Rhodes to a 6-4 victory in game 3, securing the series win.

The Lynx will be back home for the remainder of the season, beginning with mid-week action at Stauffer Field this Wednesday as they take on the Belhaven Blazers. You can watch live coverage of the game on the Lynx Live Network.
