GEORGETOWN, TX – Men's Lacrosse continued their dominance in SAA play with a high-powered 18-12 road win over Southwestern University on Saturday morning at Varsity Field. The Lynx improves 5-0 in conference play, while handing the Pirates their fourth conference loss of the season.
Key Performances:
The Lynx came out firing to establish a 6-2 lead in the first quarter thanks to back-to-back goals from
John Mori, and a strong offensive showing from
Gavin Nagle and
Andrew Murphy, who connected throughout the game. Rhodes controlled the tempo early, dominating possession and pushing the pace in transition. Rhodes continued to roll in the second quarter, using a 5-goal frame to take an 11-5 lead into the half. The offensive rhythm remained steadfast, as the Lynx moved the ball with confidence and precision.
Drew Downes and Murphy each scored during man-up opportunities, capitalizing on well-timed feeds from
Drew Litner and
Liam Sullivan. The Lynx offense showed its depth, with multiple players getting involved in scoring and assists. The third quarter saw no let-up, as the Lynx tacked on five more goals, including two from Nagle. Rhodes' riding game continued to frustrate the Pirates, and their midfielders won key ground balls to extend possessions. Defensively, Rhodes tightened up limiting Southwestern's offensive looks and forcing low-percentage shots. Southwestern attempted a late push in the fourth, but the early damage had already been done.
Jason Rubinstein came up big finishing the game with 10 saves. The Lynx defense forced 10 turnovers and went a perfect 15-for-15 on clears, showcasing a complete team effort from start to finish.
