Lynx Fall to Eagles in Hard Fought Battle

Memphis, TN- The Rhodes College Lynx battled hard against University of Mary Washington, but fell short in a closely contested matchup with a final score of 9-14. Despite the loss, the Lynx showed resilience and had several standout performances on both ends of the field. 

Key Performances:
 
  • Alban Erdle: Scored 3 goals, remaining a consistent threat on the field.
  • Anna Samuelson: Contributed 2 goals, showing resilience throughout the game.
  • Delaney O'Mailey: Scored 1 goal and provided multiple assists, playing a pivotal role in the offense.


Rhodes struck early, with Alban Erdle threading a perfect shot past the Mary Washington defense, assisted by Molly Heidrick. The team's energy was electric, and soon, Anna Samuelson and Delaney O'Mailey joined in, giving Rhodes a 3-1 lead. But Mary Washington was not about to back down. By the end of the first quarter, the score was tied 3-3, setting the stage for an epic struggle.

The second quarter saw Rhodes digging deep. Anna Erskine and Payton Stevens weaved through defenders, scoring crucial goals to keep Rhodes ahead. The team's chemistry was undeniable, with Delaney O'Mailey delivering pinpoint assists that kept the pressure on. By halftime, Rhodes held a slim 7-6 lead, but the game felt anything but secure.

As the third quarter unfolded, Rhodes' momentum began to waver. Mary Washington found their rhythm, scoring in quick succession. 

Rhodes' last hope came in the form of Anna Samuelson, who delivered a stunning unassisted goal with just minutes remaining. But penalties and fatigue weighed heavy on the team. Despite their best efforts, Rhodes couldn't close the gap as Mary Washington sealed their victory with two final goals. When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 14-9 in favor of Mary Washington.
