Game Recap: Baseball |

Lynx Baseball Fall Over Spring Break

The Rhodes College Baseball team traveled to Florida over spring break to compete in four competitive games. Unfortunately, the Lynx were unable to come away with a win despite their best efforts.

Game 1 vs. Roger Williams University

Rhodes College fought hard but ultimately fell 8-1 to Roger Williams University. Quinn Blackman stood out, tallying two hits, two stolen bases, and scoring their lone run on a Myles Kruger ground out. Corbin Kinder added a double, but Rhodes struggled offensively.

Pitcher Reid Lampert struck out eight over five innings, allowing only three earned runs, while Mick Arney delivered three solid innings of relief. Defensive errors proved costly, leading to several unearned runs. Despite the loss, Rhodes showed moments of promise and determination, setting the stage for future improvement.

Game 2 vs. Webster University

Rhodes College showed flashes of potential in their 10–2 loss to Webster University in Lakeland, Florida. Ben Daniel sparked the offense, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored. Quinn Blackman added a double and scored in the 8th inning on Corbin Kinder's ground out.

On the mound, Reid Manti struck out five in 4.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs despite a few defensive miscues. Ryan Fallmann delivered 1.2 solid innings of relief with three strikeouts, while Sebastian Neave pitched a scoreless frame.

Though outpaced by Webster's offensive firepower, Rhodes displayed moments of resilience, particularly from key contributors like Daniel and Blackman.

Game 3 vs. Hope College

Rhodes College fell just short in a hard-fought 5–4 battle against Hope College in Citrus Ridge, Florida. The Lynx displayed determination, rallying with standout performances at key moments.

Cooper Kuriger provided the offensive spark in the 4th inning, driving in two runs with a clutch single to right field, putting Rhodes briefly in the lead. Ben Burkhart added two hits, including a double, and Quinn Blackman showcased his speed with a stolen base. Brad Larson contributed with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.

On the mound, Will May pitched 6.1 innings, striking out five and limiting walks to none, while Mick Arney threw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to keep Rhodes within striking distance.

Despite a late rally, Rhodes fell short after a 9th-inning passed ball allowed a run. The Lynx continue to demonstrate resilience and look poised for future success in their upcoming games.

Game 4 vs. Babson College

The Rhodes Lynx fought valiantly but came up short in an 8–4 loss to Babson at Lake Myrtle Park. The game saw Rhodes clawing back from an early deficit before Babson's consistent offense proved too much to overcome.

Babson jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning, but Rhodes answered in the third. Myles Kruger sparked the rally with a lead off single, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Corbin KinderAustin Smith also crossed the plate moments later when Ben Daniel worked a bases-loaded walk, tying the game at 2–2. However, Babson regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run homer.

The Lynx kept battling but struggled to capitalize on opportunities. Despite strong defensive efforts and a two-RBI double from Collin Kimball-McCavish in the eighth, unearned runs proved costly for Rhodes. Zac Sohosky started on the mound, striking out six over three innings but took the loss. Relievers Andrew Carron, Mick Arney, Sebastian Neave, and Jack Goldstein combined to limit further damage late.

Offensively, Kinder and Ben Burkhart contributed key hits, while Kinder added an RBI and displayed aggressive base running. Ben Daniel and Quinn Blackman each showcased patience at the plate, drawing walks to keep the offense alive.

Despite the setback, the Lynx demonstrated resilience and grit, showing promise as they continue their 2025 campaign.

The Lynx will look to bounce back from these games, and are looking forward to continue SAA play against Sewanee next weekend.
