The Rhodes College Baseball team traveled to Jackson, Mississippi for a single game midweek matchup against the Belhaven University Blazers.
The Lynx offense was firing from the very beginning as they ambushed the Blazers for 2 runs in the top of the 1st, followed by 4 more in the top of the 2nd.
Austin Smith continued his hot streak from last weekend as he recorded his 4th hit in a row and drove in
Malcolm Rohlfing.
Brandon Trichell would also go on to drive in an RBI to bring the Lynx lead to 6-0 in the top of the 2nd.
After a brief threat from the Blazers, Rhodes turned the ball over to their most dependable arm,
Mick Arney. Arney continued his incredible senior season with another stellar outing, spanning 5.0 innings, only allowing 1 run, and recording 3 strikeouts. The senior right hander continues to lead the team in ERA at 1.93, and thus far has been nothing short of dominant.
In the top of the 8th,
Myles Kruger provided some insurance for the Lynx as he knocked an RBI single up the middle, scoring
Ben Daniel. The Freshman reliever
Reid Manti would then come on to close the door in the bottom half of the 8th and 9th innings. Manti dealt 1.2 innings of shutout ball, striking out 1 and putting an end to the Blazers hopes. Rhodes would claim the victory by a final score of 7-3.
The nationally ranked Lynx improve their record to 6-1 on the season as they return home to begin the Rhodes College Classic. They will be in action at home against Oneonta at 2 pm on Saturday, February 21. You can watch every game of the Rhodes College Classic on the Lynx Live Network.
