Rhodes men's track and field opened its indoor season with a strong all-around showing at the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker, competing on the 200m banked track and across a full lineup of sprint, hurdle, relay, and field events.
On the track, the Lynx were highlighted by a solid performance from sophomore Sumay Frueh in the 400 meters, where he ran 51.91 to lead the Rhodes group. Senior Bryce Tuchner followed with a 54.35, and junior Mark Hanson added a 55.15 to round out the event for the Lynx. In the sprints, sophomore Clayton Wentworth doubled in the 60 meters and 200 meters, running 7.36 and 23.73, respectively. Hanson also competed in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.26. Tuchner represented Rhodes in the 60 hurdles, recording a time of 8.89 in the prelims.
Rhodes also fielded a 4x400 relay team, with Nathan Copeland, Wentworth, Tuchner, and Frueh combining for a time of 3:37.98.
In the field events, Frueh continued his strong day by leading Rhodes in the long jump with a mark of 6.01m. Hanson reached 5.78m, and first-year Nathan Copeland added a jump of 5.75m. Frueh then returned for the triple jump, posting a best mark of 12.19m, while Copeland recorded 11.34m in the event.
Senior Liam Conroy competed in three events for the Lynx, clearing 3.55m in the pole vault, throwing 8.27m in the shot put, and finishing with a strong 14.35m performance in the weight throw to close out his day.
Rhodes opened the indoor season with competitive marks across the board and will look to build on these early performances as the schedule continues.
